Kane Historic Preservation Society (KHPS) installs solar panels on the roof of the depot with help from WPEF

In 2024, with support from the West Penn Energy Fund, KHPS completed a comprehensive energy audit of both buildings. WPEF subsequently funded implementation of the recommended energy efficiency improvements, which were completed in 2025. These improvements have already resulted in an estimated 15% reduction in natural gas usage, demonstrating measurable energy savings and KHPS’s commitment to responsible energy stewardship. Building upon this success, the Kane Depot Solar Project will substantially reduce or eliminate energy costs for their small operating budget.
