Wesley Family Services Pioneer Building – Solar

The construction of Wesley Family Services (WFS) Pioneer building in New Kensington was completed in 2020.  Pioneer was designed as a mixed-use building which incorporated 36 affordable housing apartments and commercial office space for WFS staff.  The Pioneer building is LEED Gold certified, meets Passive House Phius standards, and was built to be solar ready.  WFS invested $18.6M in its Pioneer project. In March 2022, WPPSEF committed a $170,000 grant to WFS to install a 104-kW roof-mounted solar PV array on the Pioneer building.  The solar PV array was dedicated on February 22, 2024. The Pioneer building is a major investment in New Kensington, both in terms of financial investment and deploying high-performance building practices.
