Latimer Library Expansion & Renovation

Saint Vincent College (SVC) re-imagined its Library as an interdisciplinary center for digital information access, creative hands-on learning and the integration of technology and the arts.  In April 2018, SVC broke ground for its 55,600 square-foot expansion and renovation of the Latimer Library.  The $20.6M project was designed to provide technology-enhanced classrooms, multimedia and video production labs, group study suites and open collaboration areas to encourage interdisciplinary interaction, shared learning and student and facility connections. WPPSEF provided $75,000 in co-funding for the purchase of a Dedicated Outside Air System (DOAS), educational energy displays, and to defray the cost of LEED design & submission. The HVAC-DOAS system consists of terminal fan-powered cooling and heating units that incorporate sensible and latent heat recovery.  Demand controlled ventilation in densely occupied spaces allows for energy savings by cutting back outside air when the spaces are minimally occupied. The DOAS terminal units are equipped with EC motors that provide increased operating efficiency. The heating hot water and chilled water pumps are on variable frequency drives to provide energy savings when full flow is not needed.

Impact

Energy efficient design saves 74,500 kWh/yr.

152 kW roof-mounted solar PV system

Solar PV system produces 184,500 kWh/yr.
