ASWP – T.W. Phipps Barn at Succop Nature Park

The Audubon Society of Western PA (ASWP) began renovation of Succop Nature Park’s T.W. Phillips Barn in early 2018. It opened to the public in June 2019. The project transformed the 1880 bank barn into a new education and visitor center—the lower level includes a large classroom, retail space, restrooms, and other visitor amenities. The upper level holds an open-air forebay (porch) and restrooms, transforming it into a large event space. A new addition to the building, which contains additional restrooms, is topped with a 40’ WindStax vertical wind turbine. This turbine, which is part of an electrical microgrid, provides all power for the building’s lights. WPPSEF committed a $50,000 grant to this project.
